Muslims and Jewish Event at Hempstead to help Sandy Victims
Our Muslim Jewish twinining event was very successful yesterday at County clerk office for Town of Hempstead. American Muslims for Hunger Relief- AMFHR donated boxes of canned food and blankets to Supervisor of Town of Hempstead, Long Island. http://toh.li/supervisor
A coalition of Long Island mosques and synagogues, Muslim and Jewish schools and organizations were present at the event, including the Islamic Center of Long Island (Westbury), Temple Israel (Lawrence), Long Island Muslim Society (East Meadow), Temple Sinai (Roslyn Heights), Solomon Schecter School (Jericho), Crescent School ( Hempstead), Masjid Darul Quran (Bay Shore), American Muslims For Hunger Relief (AMFHR) and The Foundation for Ethnic Understanding and donated blankets, warm coats and non-perishable food items.
Jewish and Muslim leaders and Town Supervisor Kate Murray spoke about the devastation of Sady and how different group responded and people from different groups came together to support the victims and in this case Muslims and Jews of Long Island. Children from Jewish School and Crescent Muslim School also spoke about the common understand between two faith.
Other groups and people from different organizations praised AMFHR efforts in New Jersey for hurricane victims.
One group of muslims from Hempstead which was represented by Sister Sakira also showed interest to start the feeding program again in Hemstead as they use to work in past with Muslims against Hunger and with the demise of this organization they want to work with some other organization. They were told that as AMFHR already sponsoring soup kitchens in Long Island and will work with them for future events and will do one before Christmas/New Year holidays.
We also like to thank our volunteers and specially Anwar Syed Bhai for their help and effort to make this event successful.
