American Muslims For Hunger Relief is a tax-exempt not for profit organization that serves in the NJ, PA, and NY areas of the East Coast. AMFHR’s purpose is to decrease hunger in the NJ, PA, and NY areas by collecting, soliciting, and distributing food at local soup kitchens, mosques, and Islamic Centers. Our services include food-box programs, preparation of food, and working in collaboration with local businesses to donate food for distribution. AMFHR’s targeted client base are low-income families, focusing on the working poor, who need assistance in providing food for their families. According to the 2012 Population Reference Bureau, AMFHR’s client base of low-income families has grown in New Jersey to 20%, low income families in the New York area has mounted to a staggering 29%, and 26% of Pennsylvania’s population are low-income families. AMFHR’s services to the community significantly improve the ability of families to reach self-sufficiency.
